Every child deserve better Campaign
YENDI (ZOHE E.P PRIMARY SCHOOL) Northern Region, Ghana
As part of our mission to FEED the Hungary, CLOTHE the naked and SHELTER the homeless, Florence John Foundation (FJF) Ghana team embarked on a donation exercise in Yendi, on the 7th day of July 2018.
This was done after a proposition was received from one of the natives of Yendi, who had visited the school and witnessed most of the pupils sitting on the bare floor in classrooms to learn. The native, Osman, decided to send the request to FJF through the headmaster of the school, after going through our donations videos and pictures on social media (Facebook).
FJF team in Ghana responded according and as usual, solicited for funds from people willing to give back to society (in support of charity course). And we were able to raise $1,500.00 to provide 80 desks out of the 155 the school requested.
One beautiful this about this donation is that, not only did we donate but also gave the contract to a local carpenter to make the desks (employment opportunity).
The program began with a sitting involving about 300 pupils of the school with 10 teachers and 200 parents of the pupils and lasted for about an hour and half.
The program began with a prayer and was followed by a welcome address by the Headmaster of the school and brief speeches from the Municipal Director of Education, Chairman of Parent – Teacher Association (PTA) of the school and Country Director for FJF team in Ghana.
Country Director’s speech touched on the following;
o A brief history of FJF
o What we do (our mission)
o What we have done so far (embarked projects) and
o Why we chose to donate to Zohe EP Primary school.
He also took the opportunity to advise parents and especially the pupils, on how important education is to the individual, community and the nation at large and the role parents have to play to help achieve this. And now that more desks have been provided, the children do not have any excuse not to be in school.
The Headmaster mentioned in his speech that, in addition to the 80 desks we provided, other bodies have also donated some to the school and now they have 157 new desks.
The program was brought to an end, after a fund-raising exercise to raise funds to help buy materials to build a – 3-unit classroom block for the school was done by the Headmaster and representative from CAMFED who spoke primary on teenage pregnancy and its effect on the girl child’s future.
The Headmaster thanked FJF for the kind gesture and assistance on behalf of the school and also, Country Director thanked all members, on behalf of FJF team for given us the opportunity to serve mankind and make a positive impact to the lives of the pupils.
